Max the Margay
Max is a Margay (Leopardus weidii), a little known nocturnal cat that is native to Central and South America. They spend the majority of their time in the trees and so are extremely agile climbers, they also have large eyes to allow them to see more easily in the dark. Unfortunately Margays are on the decline due to habitat loss and have been listed as a 'near threatened' species by the IUCN.
Max was created using a combination of all white Schulte and mini bear synthetic fabrics. He has been stuffed with polyfill and has rubber pellets in his tail and a bag of plastic pellets in his tummy for added weight. Additionally he has internal wire armature in his limbs and neck/back for posing. Each paw has been needle-sculpted and has individually applied stuffed ultrasuede pads (including, the carpal pads on the forepaws).
Max has beautiful high quality realistic glass taxidermy eyes set into specially constructed eye sockets ringed with waxed cotton cord. His nose has been sculpted from polymer clay, shaded with acrylic paints and sealed with a matt varnish. His mouth has been constructed using perle cotton thread and his whiskers are horsehair.
He has been scissor-sculpted and his fur markings have been completely hand shaded using an airbrush. There is an Arcas Designs fabric tag sewn in just under his tail.
Max measures approx 13" from the tips of his ears to the base of his paws, 13" front to back and 16" from nose to bottom (not including his fine tail).
