Sugar Gliders
These adorable little creatures are sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), marsupials that are native to Eastern and Northern Australia and some surrounding islands. They are notable for the stretchy membrane (known as the patagium) between the front and back legs that allows them to glide from one tree to another. These two represent a mother and her offspring.
Mum has been created using beautifully soft Tyber and Schulte synthetic fabrics with ultrasuede feet and ears. Baby has been created with long pile mini bear fabrics and ultrasuede. Both have been stuffed with polyfil and a bag of glass beads resides in their tummies for a bit of added weight. Their tails are filled with rubber pellets. The heads are nut and bolt jointed and they have wire armature in their arms and legs (all the way down to their individual fingers and toes) for poseability. They have English glass eyes ringed with cotton cord lids, and polymer clay noses. Bonded nylon highlights their mouths and the whiskers are made from horse hair. They have been scissor scuplted and airbrush shaded for realism.
Mum measures just over 10" from the nose to the tip of her tail and Baby is approximately 7.5" long.
